 Pemimpin spiritual terbesar di India, Sathya Sai Baba pada hari Minggu (24/04/2011) pagi telah meninggal. Sebelumnya, seorang pria yang percaya tirinya-dewa adalah subyek pengobatan intensif selama tiga minggu karena menderita gagal jantung kronis.

Seperti dilansir kantor berita AFP mengutip pernyataan yang dirilis NDTV dari tim dokter, Sai Baba gagal jantung sejak tanggal 28 Maret 2011 Sai Baba menjalani pengobatan di sebuah rumah sakit di Puttaparthi, India.

Ribuan pengikut Sai Baba juga dikumpulkan di rumah sakit tempat terakhir Sai Baba. Mereka menemani tubuh suci Sai Baba kembali ke kota kelahirannya di bagian selatan negara bagian Andhra Pradesh.

Sathya Sai Baba terlahir sebagai Sathyanarayana Raju, 23 November 1926. Hal ini dianggap reinkarnasi dari Shirdi Baba, seorang filsuf dan Mahayogi yang meninggal pada tahun 1918.

Ajaran rohani Sai Baba memiliki banyak pengikut di berbagai belahan dunia termasuk Indonesia. Pada beberapa kesempatan Sai Baba yang sering dianggap sebagai orang suci mengatakan bahwa ajarannya bukanlah agama dan bukan sekte tertentu agama yang sudah ada. Menurut jutaan orang di seluruh dunia yang beriman Sai Baba memiliki kekuatan supranatural seperti objek juggling, sehingga mengetahui cerita kehidupan orang di masa lalu dan mampu mengobati penyakit kematian, mematikan dan kebangkitan.

Banyak juga fenomenal yang menganggap Sai Baba bukamlah apa yang dikira selama ini.

"He's going to die on his 95-year anniversary," said Dr. A. Murthi, who sitting in the organizing committee for the World Conference and is a sworn devotee of Sai Baba.
- How can Sai Baba know?
- Because he is the son of God. Son of God knows everything.
- It will say that Sai Baba has a good 20 years left to live?
- Exactly. And during these 20 years we must solve a series of problems.

Treating physicians Indian spiritual leader Sai Baba, one of the most famous gurus of the country, announced Thursday his health was deteriorating rapidly mass believers to pray for his recovery.
Police in the birthplace of Sai Baba of Puttaparthi in South India, have set up crowd barriers and called for reinforcements to ecstatic fans who rushed to the hospital where he is treated control.
Thousands of people are concerned supporters converged at Puttaparthi, Andhra Pradesh, many of them sleep outside on the sidewalk due to a lack of hotel rooms.
A medical bulletin said the vital organs of the mystical 85-year Hindus are "very poor response to the treatment," because he was taken to hospital last month with heart disease, kidney failure and pulmonary congestion.
"The failure of the liver and persistent episodes of low blood pressure causing great concern for physicians," said the bulletin.
Sai Baba is credited by millions of fans worldwide supernatural powers, including the ability to create objects in the sky, remember past lives and cure of terminal diseases.
It counts former presidents and prime ministers, businessmen and even Indian cricket superstar Sachin Tendulkar among his followers.
Senior police officer Narasimhulu Puttaparthi, who uses one name, said security measures had been introduced, including a ban on large public gatherings in the city, 450 kilometers (280 miles) from the state capital Hyderabad.
"We have also erected barricades near the hospital to control unruly crowds," the deputy director general of police told AFP by telephone.
About 1,000 extra police were sent to Puttaparthi.
In Hyderabad, the Chief Minister of State Kiran Reddy met with officials to plan for crowds shops around the hospital were asked to organize a good control.
"The doctors treating him his efforts to save Baba Pray." Minister of State N Raghuveer Reddy - who is not related to the prime minister - told reporters after the meeting.
Sainath Raju, a close relative of Sai Baba, complained he was not allowed to visit the ailing guru.
"There are at least 100 parents gathered at the hospital, but none of us could see," Raju told AFP by telephone.
Raju said senior religious leaders the confidence of Sai Baba, who visited the bed of the guru continues to hope that he recovers.
